Wedding prayer

We will witness several weddings this summer, and I am reminded of this beautiful prayer that was prayed over us nearly 13 years ago. As I reread these words, I am thanking God for this man with whom I walk hand in hand.

"O God of Love, Thou has established marriage for the welfare and happiness of mankind. Now the joys of these two will be doubled since the happiness of one is the happiness of the other. Their burdens will be halved since they now will share them.

Bless this husband. May he so live that she may find in him the heaven
for which her heart truly longs.

Bless this wife. Give her that inner beauty of soul that never fades, that eternal youth that is found in holding fast to the things that never age.

Give them a great spiritual purpose in life. May they seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Loving Thee best, they shall love each other more, and faithful unto Thee, faithful to each other they will be.
May they not expect that perfection of each other that belongs only to Thee.

Now make such assingments to them on the scroll of Thy will as will bless them and will develop their character as they walk together. Give them enough tears to keep them tender, enough hurts to keep them human, enough failure to keep their hands clenched tightly to Thine, and enough success to make them sure they walk with God. May they never take each other's love for granted but always experience that breathless wonder which exclaims,
'Out of all the world, you have chosen me!'

Then when life is done and the sun is setting, may they be found then as now, still hand in hand, still thanking God for each other. May they serve Thee happily, faithfully together until at last one shall lay the other in Thine arms."

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing the prayer, Ri. And I love that picture of you two. Brings back sweet memories. Has it already been 13 years?!? And yet, it seems like I have known you for a life time. What a blessing you are, sweet sister of mine.
love you, K
