Lent

This has been a new season for me. It used to be Easter... There was chocolate to hide away and new clothes for that Sunday morning and, of course, the retelling of the story, His Resurrection story.

But this year has been different. Practicing Lent turned my heart toward Him over these past weeks, month plus, and the preparation for the day has become a season, days upon days of hoping and praying and learning. Our Lenten wreath has been a part of that. The meditations and candlelight have centered our reflection, and it is with soberness that this Good Friday dawns around me...

I have to share this idea with you since it's been so enjoyable for us the past two years. On Good Friday we've been dying our eggs (1 dozen) leaving one white. We talk about how before the fall we were all white but now b/c of our sin we have color and we try to make ourselves beautiful by hiding our nakedness. Then we read the crucifixion story and put the white egg in a "tomb" wrapped in cloth. The other 11 eggs represent the disciples who scatter out of fear. On Sunday we have the girls roll play Mary going to the tomb with spices (salt and pepper) where they find Him gone. We hide the eggs and tell them to find the hiding disciples to tell them the good news. It's been a great teaching tool and the girls look forward to it!
